MANILA – Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, president of the Ateneo Scholarship Fund, has apologized for inviting former First Lady Imelda Marcos to the Fund’s 40th anniversary celebration last Saturday, July 5.(Interaksion)
What's so special with the 40th anniversary of something? We usually celebrate rounded figures. 10th, 25th, 50th.
I am guessing Ye Olde FL pulled some strings to be invited. I won't put it past her. She's celebrating her 85th birthday, and the former FL is fond of "asalto" or surprises, which she often engineers herself. She's notorious for wanting those teachers and students dancing on the tarmac when her plane's door opens.
What gets my goat is that Villarin apologized for inviting her. Walang paninindigan. It's bad manners, too, to say that you didn't really like inviting your guest, you just had to do it.
That kind of cowardice is reserved for spineless creatures. And no, I am not about to offend the jellyfish.

like adding more oxygen to the fire, it did nothing to diffuse it. rather, it breathed more life into it and exposed its immediate surrounding, in this case the people involved, to further chastisement. the one introducing more oxygen seemingly insensate and taking the flak for doing so.
ReplyDeletea formal apology to the other guests and attendees was not required IMO, an internal review of their event's policy perhaps is.
O kaya sana hindi nagpa-pressure kay Imelda. Puwede naman iyon eh. Hay.
